TikTokker Khaby Lame is quickly becoming the leader of the popular social network. He has set up an account on TikTok just about a year and a half ago, and he's already followed by more than 100 million people.

More than 14 million new followers piled up over the last month, while the current leader on TikTok, Charli D’Amelio, had only about 3 million rise. His rocket start came when he was fired. What do we know about the young Senegalese who's lived in Italy since he was a kid?

In this article you will read:
  • How much money did he earn with TikTok approximately.
  • How he plans to repay his mother.
  • Why he apologized to Queen Elizabeth II.
  • What is exceptional success according to him.
  • Which of his videos certainly won't make you laugh.

From poverty to millions

In one of his videos, Khaby Lame shows how to safely load a TV into a car. At the beginning of 2020, he probably wouldn't be able to afford to afford an expensive vehicle nor television, because he got fired. Until March, he worked as a factory worker and after losing his job he was real worried about his future.

The world was hit by coronavirus pandemic. The first lockdowns came around, so he began to devote himself fully to filming, even though his father begged him to find a "normal" job. Undoubtedly, he had no idea at the time that in a year and a half he would be the second most watched TikTokker in the world. He's most certainly not at any risk of poverty at the moment.

The Celebs Life Reel website estimated the value of his assets (this was back when he had 22.5 million followers) between $1 and $2 million, which is about 852,345 to 1,704,690 EUR. However, currently he has more than 100 million followers and a much greater reach, which will most likely give him even higher income from TikTok for individual posts.

We've put the number of his videos, followers and likes on August 10, 2021 into a calculator from the Influencer Marketing Hub website, which estimates the value of contributions on TikTok. It said that he probably earns about 160,640 to 240,961 dollars for one post, so about 137 081 to 205 623 EUR. However, the makers of the calculator point out that the value of the contribution may vary depending on a number of factors, such as country, target audience and so on.

In addition to TikTok, however, he also uploads videos on YouTube or Instagram, where he has more than 33 million followers.

He plans to buy his mother a house

In his work, he recently focused on her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In a short video, he explained to her how the cake should be cut. He apologized to the queen in advance for his joke. Khaby's parents seem to have raised a decent man. And the famous TikTokker certainly doesn't forget to take care of them. Once he gets rich, he wants to buy his mother a house, as written The New York Times.

According to his own words, he currently has a "stable" income, but he's also not really ballin' yet. The fact that he already thinks of his loved ones with the first millions earned speaks volumes about their relationship. Not every famous person spends money on family. An example of that is director Quentin Tarantino, whose mother never supported his art. As a child, he swore that once he gets rich, he definitely won't buy her any luxury housing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Global language" as a recipe for success

Khaby Lame shoots videos in video reaction style. It focuses on people who show how to complicate a simple matter as much as possible in their work. Other times he chooses real life situations with someone doing something wrong. A young Senegalese points out in a simple and hilarious way how everything can be simplified with common sense.

He always ends his performance with a typical smile and a raised hands, which is a way to say without using words: “See? It's really that simple.” Khaby thinks that these videos with gestures and no words are the reason for his success. As he told The New York Times, he communicates with people in a "global language" that everyone understands.

Some of his videos certainly won't make you laugh

In his work, Khaby hasn't always focused on "video reaction" style with no use of words. If you've scrolled through his work to the very beginning, you'd notice the video from March 2020 attached above, which shows how he disinfects his hands. Funny? Not really.

On his profile, you can find videos where he speaks Italian to his followers instead of a "global language". Maybe he's telling a joke, but certainly not everyone in the world will understand him. The first video lacks Khaby's typical humor and the second will only appeal to a quite narrow target group. If he had stuck to these videos, we probably would have never even heard of him.

Italian without the citizenship

Khaby has spent most of his life in Italy. So he knows how to make pizza and it definitely doesn't include gummy bears. His family moved to Italy when he was only one year old. Nevertheless, he doesn't have Italian citizenship.

According to the NYT, he'd only get it if he was born to his immigrant parents in Italy. With a Senegalese passport, he has problems arranging trips to the USA. He hopes that his popularity will one day contribute to changing the citizenship law in Italy.

He shoots videos also with his girlfriend

In October last year, he started dating a young, currently 18-year-old influencer, Zaira Nucci. More than 167,000 people follow her on Instagram. You can see their content in the attached video. They're doing a parody of a man whose partner is holding a newspaper in order to tear it apart with a strong punch. Khaby demonstrates that it can be torn even without putting in too much effort.

According to Woman Magazine, Zaira was born in Sciacca on the southwest coast of Sicily. She and her family later moved to Chivassa, which is where she met Khaby. “I immediately realized that she was interested in me as a person and not as a TikTok character,” Khaby said. When they met, he was not nearly as famous as he is today. Based on a photo on the social network, on which Zaira has a ring on her finger, speculations began to spread about the couple being engaged. However, neither of them has officially confirmed this yet.

In his most watched video, he shows how to open the door

Khaby's oldest videos have now been watched by several hundred thousand people. However, the young Senegalese gained this viewing only after gaining popularity. Initially, the viewership reached a max of several tens of thousands. Currently, several of his videos boast over 200 million views.

At the time of writing this article, his biggest hit has more than 285 million followers, which is twice as many as all of his followers. It shows the audience that if you want to open a door that's close to you, you shouldn't block it with your feet. In that case, they'll remain closed.

He was honored by former star of Juventus

Khaby Lame makes no secret of his fandom for FC Juventus. May this year, the famous football player Alessandro Del Piero, who played hundreds of matches for Juventus, accepted an invitation to shoot a video together. In the first shot, we see an unknown bodybuilder trying to tear an apple in two with his own hands.

Khaby immediately takes a knife and calmly cuts the fruit in half. He then serves the apple to Alessandro Del Piero, who then indicates with a gesture that it could have been done in this simple way.

He trolled Mark Zuckerberg, who sent him a thumb’s up

According to Italy 24 News, Khaby has managed to beat the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg on Instagram in terms of followers, in just two weeks. He pointed out in a humorous video that while Zuckerberg was followed by 7.3 million users, he was already being watched by 8.7 million people.

The sarcastic video was also noticed by the Facebook leader himself, and he commented on the article with a thumb’s up emoticon (thumbs up). At the time of writing of this article, Zuckerberg was followed by 7.8 million people on Instagram. However, Khaby already has almost 34 million followers, which is still nothing compared to his TikTok.

It's only a matter of time before he becomes TikTok's number one

When we wrote about Khaby last July, there were 83.7 million followers on his account. One month later, he exceeded 100 million. TikTok's current number one, dancer Charli D’Amelio, had 119 million followers in July. And only a 3 million increase in a month. Statistically speaking, Khaby is well on his way to become an unbeatable leader in the upcoming months. According to the Social Tracker portal, he gained a 2.66 percent increase in followers in one week at the beginning of August. The number of Charli D’Amelio followers increased by only 0.33 percent over the same time.
