Today we can improve, enhance or even completely change almost anything. Aesthetic medicine is on the rise and many women (and men) are reaching for these alternatives to correct imperfections.

We were interested in application of the so-called facial fillers. They have the ability to tighten the skin, cover the fine lines and remove bags under the eyes. The contours of the face can also be altered these days, so you can slim your chin or straighten your nose.

We took a closer look at the ENVY Clinic, where Dominika and Marta were clients and our models at the same time. We accompanied them throughout the entire process and they told us about the pain they were feeling and whether they liked the results. We also found out more about the cost of such procedures.

Few minutes away from a more beautiful nose and a narrower chin

Dominika had fillers applied in two spots on her face: her nose and her chin. According to the surgeon Eva Šimbochová, the filling material is added to the bones (for example along the cheekbones or around the chin or the nose) in order to highlight them.

Hyaluronic acid is used for this purpose - it's a natural substance for the body and despite the way the name sounds, there's nothing to worry about. It doesn't have the potential to "eat" your skin like regular acids do. Quite the contrary. It's a total hit in the world of cosmetics (even amongst nutritional supplements), because it increases the hydration and elasticity of the skin, fills in fine wrinkles and improves the overall condition of the skin. It can bind a huge amount of water, which helps prevent the so-called transepidermal water loss (i.e., water leakage from the skin for which the skin dries, cracks, and becomes dull).

With chin and cheekbones, the effect is also slightly slimming and it improves the profile of the face. In clinical terms, this is often called profile harmonisation - slight imperfections are evened out and overall contours or facial features are optimised and harmonised.

According to the surgeon, Dominika is an ideal client for such non-invasive correction. In her opinion, women are often afraid of surgery, considering the fact that it's not a guaranteed success. It is much more difficult to fix a nose job gone wrong than to adjust it after a filling. "This is such a minimal imperfection that surgery is really unnecessary," she explains, pointing to Dominika's profile. "There's no need for recovery, which would be long lasting after an operation."

The truth is that the whole procedure only took a few minutes and the client could easily go straight to a meeting from there. There are no medications involved, nor is it very painful, so one can actually carry on quite normally after the procedure. In addition, when leaving, the nose already looks "brand new". It's not a significant change that would be notably commented on by people around you.

"The nose is still yours, it's just a little more beautiful," the doctor added with a smile. As she grabbed the needle, she added that compared to this procedure, the surgical repair of a nose is much more striking. With surgery, it's almost certain that people will notice. First of all, because you are recovering for a long time, and secondly, because it is a more significant transformation.

Alright, so much for explanations, it was time for "action". When adjusting the nose, the doctor pricks you in several places: at the root of the nose, at the tip and under the nose. The filling material is still massaged in with the fingers to make sure that no lumps are formed and t ensure even distribution. The procedure pace is slow and the doctor checks the shape and amount of filling by touch.

From the expression on her face, it's quite clear to us that although the first injection only stung a little bit, the second, at the bottom of the nose, was really painful. It only took a few seconds, the whole procedure took up to about five minutes.

A single tear of bravery appeared, but it was followed by immediate enthusiasm after the look in a mirror. The result is satisfying and meets the expectations - with the right consultation, the result shouldn't surprise you.

When it comes to chin modification, it's a very sensitive area. According to the client, though, it hurts much less than the lip modifications she's done in the past. Again, it was literally only a matter of seconds and the material was massaged in. The chin was optically lengthened and slightly narrowed, which smoothed out the overall profile of the face.

When is a nose job appropriate

"I also wanted to adjust my chin because I wore braces for two years, and I also have a bit of an overbite. I wanted to slightly lengthen my face, " Dominika explained her motives. She didn't have to think too much about the procedure. Right from the first consultation with the doctor, she was in. They already know each other, she pays regular visits to the clinic, so she feels safe and comfortable there.

The ideal aspirant is a person with imperfections on the back of their nose, such as a hollow area along the line of the nose that can be leveled. Similarly, a fallen tip can be lifted, creating a beautifully straight but still natural-looking nose. Broken noses, where there's often deformations of the side, are not ideally fixable with fillings (the nose would expand unnecessarily). "After various operations or fractures, the anatomy is changed, so then there is a greater health risk when applying the fillings," doctor explained.

Various complications can occur, especially when the substance is applied directly into a vessel. If you aren't certain whether this procedure is suitable for you, it's best to go for a personal consultation, because it is very individual.

Great advantage of nose fillers is that they last a really long time - according to the doctor, the effect lasts up to anywhere between one to three years. It depends on your metabolism, but absorption in the nose is slower than in other areas of the face. For example, people get their lips enlarged more often. Whether you repeat the procedure after the effect wears off is up to you - if you don't go, hyaluronic acid will be absorbed over time and the nose will gradually return to its original shape. So it's not a lifelong solution.

Prices depend on the amount of material used. Sometimes, they offer you a unit price per 1 ml, other times they also offer smaller 0.5 ml doses. This is how the ENVY Clinic works. Here, you pay €160 for 0.5 ml of hyaluronic acid. However, clinics often provide special offers, and ENVY also offers various packages, where a combination of several procedures together can cost you less than separately. Different areas "require" repetitions at different intervals, so if you want to have more things done, the initial investment will probably be higher than maintenance, because it won't always happen all at once.

Years of sleep in ten minutes

Another client, Marta, chose the option of filling in the bags under her eyes. This is a relatively subtle adjustment. An experienced doctor pays attention to the dosage and knows that less is often more. This is because hyaluronic acid has an excellent ability to bind water and will increase its volume a few days after application, so the effect will be even more visible and will last for 9 to 12 months.

However, this is not an extreme interference in any way. Your face shape will remain the same and you won't look like a new person. Instead, you'll look younger and less tired. Marta decided for the procedure because she felt that she was beginning to look really tired. Age was also an indicator for her, she said.

Who is this procedure meant for? "Usually, three groups of women choose it," explains Dr. Šimbochová, as she applies the fillings underneath the eyes. She roughly aims for the center of the cheek, while pointing under the eye. The material is massaged in again using the fingertips. It looks almost like applying an eye cream, just much faster. The substance spills and settles under the skin and the hollowness gradually disappears.

This procedure is mostly received by women, but such imperfections are often also addressed by men as well. We focused more on women this time around, because there were female clients during our visit.

"The first group are women who have bags under their eyes. This means that there's a visible dip or hole under the eyes, causing a tired look. ” So this is a “problem ” with anatomy. There is no darker coloring of the skin, the so-called dark circles under the eyes.

Such bags don't have to be hereditary, they can also appear later in life. "Due to age and gravity, our skin sags and hangs. It's completely natural and it can be filled in very nicely with hyaluronic acid, " says the doctor. Don't expect the circles to disappear completely after the first time, but the look will be more relaxed immediately after the procedure and you can repeat it a month later, at the earliest.

If you are only bothered by a dark discoloration of the skin (not caused by a a dip, so it's not just a shadow under the skin), this procedure unfortunately won't help you. "In that case, only the concealer will help," doctor pointed out. You can cover dark circles only with suitable  make-up and with the aid of color correctors, which optically erase the color.

According to the doctor, the procedure is also suitable for older ladies who do not dare to go to surgery, and the doctor decides that the fillings could still help strengthen the skin. She usually talks mature women out of this. They can achieve a much better effect with eyelid plastic surgery (so-called blepharoplasty), which can beautifully remove skin overhang and rejuvenate the face to make it look ten years younger. The eye area can also be treated with a laser, which strengthens the skin and softens some wrinkles.

No procedure is completely risk-free. "Most often there's swelling, and bruising if done with a needle technique." A bruise occurs when the needle hits the vessel by accident. Nevertheless, it quickly disappears from the face. "The third unwanted side effect may be that the acid can be visible because it hasn't been applied correctly. A bump will form on the skin, which may turn a little blue. "

This is especially the case when a lot of acid is applied at once. However, this can be fixed, and doctors have substances at their disposal that are able to dissolve the filler. Doctor recommends applying less and repeating the process rather than making the eyes swell unnecessarily.

In this case, the total cost was €160 - 0.5 ml of hyaluronic acid was enough for both eyes. When it comes to pain, no procedure is completely pain-free (usually even those that claim to be painless are not painless for everyone). "Out of all the procedures that we do, this is one of the better ones," the doctor described. The first puncture is especially sensible, then you'll only feel that there's something under your eye being done. It seems to be very close to the eye, but this is not the case, the filler is applied far away from it. However, it can possibly evoke an unpleasant feeling.

To be sure, both ladies were given a silicone filling during the procedure to hold in their hands. It is said to work better than an anti-stress ball, and since we are at an aesthetic clinic, silicones are simply always around. They usually squeezed on them due to stress rather than pain, and they both left the clinic satisfied and smiling.

Most important is the choice of the doctor and the clinic, social networks can also have a major impact. Not because the clinic is recommended to you by an influencer, but because good and bad reviews spread very quickly there. Good doctor will not only perform a quality job, but will also know how possible accidents could be solved. We do not recommend that you undergo such procedures with a beautician, for example. The procedure is always preceded by a personal consultation, where you'll also learn about possible alternatives and which one of them is the most suitable in your situation.
